Throw up 4 times within the first hour, almost pass out at the fax machine, and get sent home. |
This is obviously some new way of defining sane that I'm not familiar with. Hope you're feeling better!
Asakomi wrote: | TokenAsian wrote: | Or just throw up in the fax machine and get sent home... permanently? |
Ahahahaha, maybe i'll try that next time. Our office could use a new fax machine... they'd probably thank me in the end. |
So throw up in the fax machine, get sent home to recover, come back and get promoted?

Poor hamster... |
Well at least the hamster was dead before he was put into the fax machine. I say poor whoever had to clean up the mess once it was discovered! |

Needless to say, Lehigh's biochemistry department is WEIRD...
Well, that and the 100 alcohol-related arrests in under two weeks. _________________ Secretary of the Anime Club of Lehigh University (ACLU?)

I sense there's a connection there somehow. |

Oh, 200 arrests... my mistake.
I think that's like a 1200% increase.
They need to stay sane at work, so their labs are always cooking up something... to drink. I'm kidding... I hope. _________________ Secretary of the Anime Club of Lehigh University (ACLU?)

200 arrests in two weeks? Is that university-wide or just the biochem department? That's an average of a bit over 14 arrests a DAY! Are they trying to set a world's record or something?

I know that Chemisty's a tough degree, no matter which are of specialty, but that's beyond nuts. Maybe someone needs to see what's going on to drive them all to drink, perhaps a professor or two have snapped and decided to flunk everyone this semester. |

Never mind, it's 100, the press likes to exaggerate. That's university-wide, not just one department.
Thankfully, nobody's snapped yet. *twists a piece of paper around his finger*
Yet.

A hundred even for the entire university seems quite a bit much. Was there some quota that should've been met?!
BTW, a co-worker caught me reading this thread and remarked that there is no such thing as being 'sane at work'. _________________ YSP: Duh!

That's still quite a lot though.

Well if you ever think you're about to be sure to let us know so we can practice our "he was always such a nice guy" quotes in advance.

Maybe that's the controversy, they were under quota.

True, but at least some things can help out a bit.

I don't know, being thrown in jail doesn't sound like much of a party to me. |

The cynical, jaded student side of me says that "This is how we weed out the stupid people in the first two weeks..."
But to be serious, the drinking does seem to be getting more out of hand than it used to be. You know, there's a time for fun and a time for work, and the cops might wink at some underage drinking indoors... but raising a ruckus next to the new alcohol task force is just stupid. _________________ Secretary of the Anime Club of Lehigh University (ACLU?)

Well given they were doing it next door I wouldn't call your remark jaded at all. Sounds like Darwin in action there. College is, after all, a test for life in many ways. Getting a degree proves you can finish what you start, that you can do it without others monitoring your constantly (like your parents did in grade school), etc.
Although to be fair I would think most freshman would already be smart enough to know to hide their drinking and partying. I doubt many of them were allowed to drink openly at home, or at least not in quantities large enough to get drunk. |

Well, I guess I'm just too nice to new students... until they scratch up my car and whatnot during a drunken rampage.
Maybe this is how they stay sane... nah. They don't have jobs. _________________ Secretary of the Anime Club of Lehigh University (ACLU?)

I would think that last part goes without saying. I doubt there's anyone who'd be happy about having their car scratched up!
I was always nice to them but I managed to avoid the drunk ones mostly so that wasn't a big deal. I was a peer mentor for the First Year Studies classes for four years in a row and I do have to admit some of them were complete idiots. I remember one had to withdraw 3 days before the first semester ended because he was going to fail everything (the university allowed you to withdraw up to the last day of classes, after a certain point you'd get WF, or WP on your transcript indicating Withdrew - Failing or Withdrew - Passing. Even the WFs didn't count against your GPA however). He had to learn the hard way that you have to go to class and do your homework even if you are a frat boy. He ended up wasting all the money his parents spent on his tuition/books/etc. as well as the fees he paid to the fraternity he was pledging. Since he withdrew he was not allowed to become a member. I don't know if he ever came back actually but somehow I suspect if he did go back to college his parents made him go to a school closer to home and with less of a partying reputation.

True, but especially that first semester the homework load can sure feel like a job. Although after four years of helping with First Year Studies I can say with some authority that most freshman don't appear to be sane to start with. |

Seems like it's always the frat boys... It's probably not true, but it just seems like it.
Well, the freshmen are fresh out of high school. Funny how you can instantly pick them out of a crowd. _________________ Secretary of the Anime Club of Lehigh University (ACLU?)
