Laughing Nah, given Star Trek computer terminology that'd be 500 gigaquads per second instead. Wink I don't think they ever bothered to explain exactly what a gigaquad is but they did make it apparent that their computer systems aren't based on binary. (In one Voyager episode where Voyager ends up back in the past trying to stop a guy who stole a timeship (and thus caused the entire computer revolution by reverse engineering its components) when they go to upload the guy's database Harry says it'll take him a few minutes to configure their systems to accept binary.)

They've always been careful since the computer industry likes to "compete" with science fiction.

Someone just gave me a manga called "Photon." Sounds like holograms.

Never read the manga but the anime was quite funny when I watch it several year ago. Laughing

Looks... really old-school even for me.

Or maybe we're talking about something different?

You mean when fansubs were recording stuff off of Chinese television and getting someone to sit in front of the TV and do the translations by the seat of the pants? Very Happy

I remember getting into fansubs and gradually building up a library to trade with. I had a friend who kindly let me copy some of this fansubs of recently licensed stuff to get me started and I worked from there. Smile I have well over a thousand VHS fansubs, most of them are packed away in storage now though.

I indirectly met the friend I stayed with while in Japan through all that. I had gotten to know this one guy and we traded constantly (we would have 20+ tapes going back and forth every other week or so). He was friends with the guy in Japan and ended up putting me in touch with him as the three of us briefly thought about fansubbing a series (I forget which one but we never got anywhere with it so it doesn't matter). It turned out that I had even more in common with the guy in Japan so we really hit it off and spent a lot of time E-mailing each other. Smile Eventually he invited me to stay with him if I could make it over before his post-doc was up. Very Happy

Oh yeah and I did fansub distro for a while, that was interesting, I'm sure the post office wondered about all those packages I was sending out. Laughing

They probably thought you were drug running or something.

A different kind of drug.

Whee. My vacation time is finally approved for December. Must start booking my flight and hotel. Yay. This will be the first time in three years that I won't be working on Dec 31. *crying tears of joy* It's like an uphill battle whenever asking for long vacations especially during holidays.

Hmmm. Hotel must have high-speed internet access. I mean, I still want to watch anime in-between activities. Very Happy Very Happy

Nothing major. But it's going to be San Francisco. I have some friends over there so it should be fun. I'm actually looking forward to a relaxing trip. Actually, just the mere thought that I won't be working for 12 days makes me want to dance around nekked, err, I mean happily.

I'd rather dance in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts when I go on vacation. Cool

Yay, new coworker at work. Female, again.
