Anime = hentai/exploding heads/death tentacle rape/Speed Racer to the uninitiated. And "blogger" just sounds like something evil. XD

You're not antisocial, you just avoid morons with a passion!

I don't know if they have the anime stereotype but they did seem to be blocking every site with the word blog in it without checking content. I think someone overreacted there, now that several newspapers have started adding blogs they've had to stop doing that and actually start checking them. Many of the initial victims have remained in the block list though.

If I did that I'd have to stop coming to work. Razz I just avoid them the best I can while keeping my job. Smile

Maybe they're worried about the lawsuits that blogs tend to attract.

Perhaps, but that's not an excuse for blocking based on words in domain names. What if I wanted to visit Bob's Log Cabins at boblogcabins.com? (Assuming in this example that bobslogcabins.com had already been taken when this Bob registered a domain so he got this one.) That'd trigger a word exception.

No matter what the reason it boils down to lazy execution of the block list on their part. And they're getting paid to do this so it's an even bigger shame.

Okay, there needs to be less Peanut Chews in the office... *munch, munch*

Lazy bums, file a complaint... or is that just going to go over the wrong way?

It would probably go over the wrong way as there are quite a few sites that are blocked for good reason.

I have heard that we might start doing our own blocking which is both good and bad. Good because I'd probably be in charge of it and could make sure legit sites stay open but bad because it's a pain in the ass to keep up with since porn sites alone pop up and dissapear regularly all over the Internet. (And that's not counting the sites with other objectional content.)

Right now there are some global bans in place that make some sense but are still annoying. If a site is hosted on Tripod, Geocities or some other free web-hosting site it'll be blocked, apparently the entire domain is blocked for those sites. Google Image & Groups searches are blocked completely, in fact even our override codes won't work for those. The Groups search in particular is something that we (as in IT) should be able to override as needed, there's a wealth of info on computer problems on Usenet and it's all indexed by Google.

Frankly I don't know what the answer is, I know I'm not willing to risk asking for this site to be unblocked, even though it does meet the standards, simply because I don't want people to get the idea that I spend all day posting on here instead of working. (While I do post a lot it's a very minor amount of time compared to the work I do each day. Hell, I spend less time posting here than some of the smokers spend taking smoke breaks!)

Yes, but anime is more addictive than nicotine.

Better be careful with that plan, if everyone ends up addicted to watching anime who'll be left to create new anime? Wink

Somehow I doubt they'll create good anime/manga. Razz Can you just imagine what the Borg's pop culture would be like? Laughing

Whos only entertainment value is watching her fall apart in the final episode of Voyager. Wink I don't think that could be considered Borg pop culture though. Razz
