Lately the forum's been getting slammed with spambot registrations. These bots only bother registering an account and put a URL to their spam site in the website field and sometimes their signature fields on the profile when they register. To counter this I installed a mod that blocks those fields on the registration page and also keeps them blocked from modification until a user reaches a threshold of posts, which I have set to 5. I feel this is a small enough number that it won't be much of an inconvenience to legitimate users but high enough to make it difficult for the spammers to create accounts and be able to change their website and signature fields before being caught. This mod should also cut down on the number of successful spambot registrations as the changes will block many of them.
In simpler terms this means that no user can input a website or signature until they have made 5 posts on the forum. This should not affect you if you already have more than 5 posts. If it should happen to let me know at once so I can look into it. Feel free to reply to this topic to let me know of any problems.
Sorry to have to do this, the spammers seem determined to ruin everything fun online.
