  • people messing with the way I organize my CD-R collection (both manga and anime)
  • when my organized school items get misplaced somewhere
  • people pestering me with anime-related questions, just to show (in an insulting, embbarrassing way) the other people, my relatives, how geeky I am
  • when the stigma of anime as related to cartoons/porn is still being pinned at me

more to come some other time...

This isn't really a pet peeve as it's more of a... "culture-wide" problem.

Chinese people who diss anime just because it's Japanese.

The Pacific War is OVER. Get over it.

Oh, and I hate it also when people ask you about your hobbies. This is me trying to explain my most recent manga purchases:

"Oh, this one's about a girl who comes out of an adult video. This one's about a girl who becomes the ultimate weapon. This one's about a girl who gets sucked into a book with a setting of Ancient China."

- Books marked with highlighters. I know plenty of students mark their textbooks but that just drives me nuts. Same goes with creases, folds, and water stains.
- People asking me why I don't cook. I do cook, but seldom. *shrugs*
- Dogs sleeping on beds.

That's one of mine definitely, I think there's a special level in hell for people who get greasy fingerprints all over other people's computer screens repeatedly... Evil or Very Mad

That's another of mine, I was taught to really respect and take care of books so I hate to see bent pages and such. I get really peeved when I have spines split on me too, why can't they make paperbacks that'll stay together better nowadays? Sad

Drivers who leave their turn signals on and don't turn.

I don't even know how they do that...

Some older cars turn signal arms don't automatically cut off like they're supposed to. Also if you just do a lane change and don't just hold the signal arm up while you're doing it (in other words fully engage it), that's not enough to make it cut off. Easy to do if you're not thinking about it, although some people seem to never think about it. Sad

I just tell people I watch Japanese animation, read Japanese comics (since they won't know what manga is) and listen to Japanese music and that pretty much ends the conversation right there. I think there's a lot of people around where I live that are practically afraid of things outside the US.

Then again I have to admit I sound a bit obsessed when I put it that way. Wink

I just told some Chinese lady that at night I pretend that I'm an anime death tentacle monster that feeds on the blood of babies.

She believed me.

Crying or Very sad

American-style sarcasm is lost on the Chinese.

That's another pet peeve of mine. When I tell them I watch anime and read manga, they throw suggestive (read: sexual) jokes at me, just because I watch anime (and read manga) with some cute girls in it.

Well, I just really suck at explaining things. Never, /ever/ ask me to explain somehting to someone if you actually want them to get interested in it.

Explanations... I hate when people expand on explanations.

My version: "I couldn't find the butter."
My mom's version: "The store was so crowded! I went to the dairy section and they were having this huge sale on milk, so I got some, so I was delayed a bit there. Then I..." Etc, etc, etc.

Ahh, so I'm not the only one who has to deal with that, annoying as hell isn't it? Razz

My Mom does it too, I refer to it as "making a short story long", both as a highly accurate description and a play on the familiar "to make a long story short" bit. Smile

- talking in theaters. A couple of teenagers sitting behind me and friends just reminded me of this irritation. Grrr.

I refuse to watch movies in theaters anymore for this very reason. Well, that and kids, rising prices, sticky floors, the odors, old Asian women belching, etc. etc. etc.

Don't forget jerks with laser pointers in theaters, they're as bad, or worse! Shocked

The last time I saw that happen was several years ago and they kept playing with it through the entire run of previews & commercials. Finally when the movie was about to start some VERY big guy stands up and yells out "if whoever's using that fucking pointer doesn't stop it right now I'm going to find you and shove it up your ass!" The pointer went out immediately, the audience cheered and no one misbehaved at all the rest of the time. Very Happy
