Kabitzin's right, that's what it sounds like and it's a milk-based drink (or at least was originally, I think there's Calpis water now too) which just makes it worse. Smile

I understand it's not too bad, but I wasn't willing to try it, I'm supposed to avoid dairy products though so it was that and not the name.

You know, you really have to think about it before you realize what it sounds like.

I'm sure it's good, or it wouldn't be selling.

I guess, I noticed it, but I'm sure a lot of people don't. Smile

Laughing I don't know about that, some of the stuff in those vending machines (which is where I mostly saw Calpis on sale) is pretty funky. I think is just sells because it's there myself. Wink

TokenAsian: Yup. I think they're called "pearl shakes". Quickly and Zagu are the two companies here that sell 'em. Used to be hip a few years back here, until everyone got tired of it and moved on to another fad food, hahaha.

Well, they're still fairly hot with my relatives, so I imagine they're still popular in Taiwan to some degree.

Anyway, I like them, good enough. I should open a shop that sells them next to my university.

Hey I actually know what a pearl shake is. Smile I only mention it because I just learned about it in the current Shoujo Beat. They do have a lot of interesting history and culture articles in it, they're almost worth the cost of the magazine alone! Very Happy

I think we call them "milk tea with tapioca pearls." Excessively descriptive name? Maybe.

But they're so good...

All this talk of "tapioca pearls" and not once was the term "boba" used. Interesting.

Anyway yes, boba is one of my favourites and I find myself normally going to the Lolicup* and Ten Ren establishments for my tea w/ boba fix. Lately though, it's been more trips to the Ten Ren because they serve some of the best aromatic teas and flavorful juice drinks. Lolicup would be the prime choice for a simple boba lai cha.

* - misspelled on purpose; reasons as to why is quite obvious

The university cafeteria has started selling bubble tea.

Oh, when will the stealing of my money cease?

Well you know, technically if you give it willingly it's not stealing. Wink You just need to avoid the cafeteria! Think of the positives to this, if you eat less you'll have more to spend on anime! (Sorry to steal your line there moy Laughing )
