Hey, do you think the pillows can stand up against other bands (not jap) such as Nirvana, Guns & Roses and the like? the pillows is my favourite rock band of all time, but my brother disliked it... I know it's a matter of tastes but I just don't understand why he disliked it THAT much, saying things like " I wanna kill the singer (Sawao Yamanaka)" , or "japanese people are not meant for rock but for house music and pop", that's crazy! He really likes Nirvana, Guns & Roses, and gothic rock bands, and I like them too, but their music's just so flat, you know, cool but nothing out of the ordinary. the pillows is one of the only rock bands that really impressed me. Each song is unique, and the band is extremely versatile too. Nirvana's song "Sliver" for example, which my bro loves, is just plain flat compared to Sawao's songs and lyrics. I know that Sawao's voice is not top of the line (not as good as Hyde's voice e.g) but, he's pretty talented, and knows how to impress with his innovative tunes. the pillows' music has a fresh feel to it, and deserves a genre of its own. Just can't figure out why he dislikes the pillows at the point of calling it "nothing extraordinary"...... Even if he DID admit that the band's musician's are damn good and that they alone can probably beat the crap out of dozens of other bands! Yeah I think he just dislikes Sawao , as he really liked the pillows' instrumental tracks.
Any pillows fans out there? I would really like to talk to other fans like me, or even FLCL fans who liked the anime's soundtrack.

By the way, lol, I posted the above text in another forum but there aren't enough members, so nobody's replying... I think it'll be better here.

Actually I think the Pillows are pretty average. Majority of their songs sound very similar and I can listen to their album for more than a month without being able to recognise individual songs, which does not happen for other artistes. They tend to stick to one formula.

I have to say their best songs are Hybrid Rainbow and Ride on Shooting Star.

It's true....whenever I hear one of their songs I can instantly tell its them, granted a lot of american bands have that going for them to...but there is something about them I like....you can rock out to it, but not to much.....damn your right pretty average. Laughing
