Better than being totally confusing at least. Smile

HEADLINE: "FAMED ANIME BLOGGER ARRESTED FOR CLOBBERING PEDESTRIAN WITH HARD DRIVE."

Not quite as funny as some of the real items that showed up in the police report in my school newspaper while I was there. One of my favorites went something like this (paraphrased from memory):

"Complaintant reported that a woman was screaming out her window that she was masturbating, officers responded but were unable to locate the subject."

Overlooking the sheer silliness of the complaint itself, the part that cracked me up was imagining the poor cops going from door to door and asking "excuse me, were you masturbating a little while ago?" Laughing

We also had one about some lady giving her poodle a bath in the fountain and the ever popular putting laundry soap in the fountain. (That last one happened a few times a year, somehow I never managed to see the fountain full of soap suds though.)

Oh man, today in the student paper, they were quoting students about the casino going on the old steel mill grounds. A lot of them were saying how that the new development would encourage parents to send their kids here.

Right... most parents are going to say "Gambling? Let me think about it... NO!"

Depends, how many of them have kids who are good enough at blackjack or poker to manage to win their tuition? Wink

Odds are the ones good enough will get booted from the casino in under five minutes, especially the ones who use their massive brains to count cards or whatever.

More likely they'll go for the free booze.

Nah, the ones with the real brains will be smart enough to keep their winnings low and not stay too long. They'll still eventually get caught but they'll do decently up till then.

In poker it's more about skill than card counting so they'll have a better chance. That's real poker, not video poker though.

Comped drinks aren't exactly free since you have to play for a while and continue playing to get comps. I think a lot of students will check it out and then realize they can get beer cheaper at a convenience store and leave. Smile

I forgot to mention that it's all video slots, no card games or roulette. So it's basically gambling for morons. Computers are programmed to make you lose... Neutral

There's a casino like that near here and it sucks (I'm not much of a gambler but even still it sucks. I guess I'm too smart for that type of casino..)

The scary part was most of the machines were taken by people with those frequent player cards and playing them nonstop. Where the hell do people get that kind of money to throw away? Shocked

I could understand it more if it was nickle slots, a little money goes a long way and I have a friend who likes to go every couple of years to do that. There were maybe 5 nickle slots in that whole casino, the majority were 50 cents a pull. I think there's a sucker born every second in that casino! Razz

A friend's dad has a comp card and we've been planning ways to get him to lend it to us so we can hit the buffets in Atlantic City.

I'm assuming these are people who don't buy anime... Wink

You sure they don't have photos on file for them? You might end up in trouble with the casino thinking you stole it.... Confused

I'm wondering if some of them remember to buy food! Razz

That's good, we wouldn't want to have to see you on the news getting busted for scamming a casino. Wink

One of those things you'll be doing without if you win that 10kg lot of Ah! Megami-sama stuff. Laughing

Hey, I live off of free food on campus. There's wraps and cider at the Religion Studies party tomorrow. Very Happy

I've started blasting anime music at work again... Nothing like scaring the library ladies with the Mai HiME OP.

Hmm, I can think of other songs that'd probably scare them more. Laughing

Speaking of staying sane at work, the idiots upstream decided to add the forum to the blocked sites list. (Why I don't know, according to their own information forums like this should be fine, there's not any adult material available to non-registered users for example). How am I posting? Well I used X11, then in an xterm window ssh'd to my alumni shell account at the university I graduated from then ran Firefox from there. It tunnels through the ssh connection and displays on this end. It's not terribly fast but this is a graphics-lite site so it'll work.

An added benefit is the traffic is encrypted to work and the upstream provider since it all passes through that ssh tunnel. Still, damned annoying that they blocked the forums. Yet again another site blocked that doesn't follow their rules for blocking. They blocked Infospace last year for about 3-4 months, all you can do there is look up phone numbers/address/etc.! Morons.

The Tenjo Tenge song... Bomb a Head!

Ooookay... maybe anime is some work efficiency-sapping conspiracy? Shocked

No, it's most likely that someone noticed forum in the URL and didn't bother to check to see if the forum meets their requirements for what's allowed or not. For example we're fully compliant with COPPA. Hentai forums are available by request only as well, so no kids can get access to them (not easily anyway). I read the standards and these forums do indeed qualify as being OK by their own standards. Yet they blocked them.... They blocked www.animeblogger.net even before the site had any content at all (it was a blank page). I guess blank pages are adult/libelous/seditious/etc. now. Rolling Eyes

Remember they blocked Infospace for three months last year. There's nothing even remotely near a violation of their standards on that site. I think they just block sites at random and pretend they're doing a good job. Confused

These are the same folks who can't get DNS setup properly and they're a high-level ISP (they provide service mostly to ISPs and large businesses, not individuals). We're having to get DNS delegated to us for our IP space because of this. I've never been a regular DNS admin before but it took me all of two weeks to set up the zone files properly, something they haven't managed to do in 2-3 years. Hell, the last time I called them to get a reverse entry changed to resolve to something specific they called me back to confirm the change and IP to be changed and changed the wrong IP anyway! Shocked They're just idiots is all.
